Winnsboro Coach Arrested for Failing to Report Alleged Staff-Student Relationship

WINNSBORO, Texas — Investigators with the Wood County Sheriff’s Office arrested Winnsboro Independent School District coach Jared Alan Lancaster after obtaining a warrant on June 23 for knowingly failing to make a required child-abuse report.

According to the sheriff’s office, Lancaster was taken into custody at his Winnsboro home by members of the Criminal Investigations Division and a Texas Ranger. He was booked into the Wood County Jail on one count of failing to report a relationship between another coach and a student at a Winnsboro school. A judge set his bond at $10,000.

Texas law requires any school employee who is aware of an improper relationship between staff and students to notify the appropriate authorities. The sheriff’s office emphasized that failure to report such conduct is itself a crime.

The investigation is ongoing, and officials said additional arrests are expected. Anyone with information related to the case is urged to contact the Wood County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division or the Texas Rangers.
